What Is Included in This Chart Pack

The PDF contains seven pages: a cover, one page per section family, and a reference page listing the IS standard sources. Every table uses the authoritative values from the published IS standards — not rounded estimates.

Section Family Standard Sizes Key Properties
ISMB (Medium Weight Beam) IS 808:1989 100 to 600 mm depth — 14 sizes D, B, tw, tf, A, kg/m, Ixx, Iyy, Zxx, Zyy, rxx, ryy
ISMC (Medium Weight Channel) IS 808:1989 75 to 400 mm depth — 11 sizes h, b, tw, tf, A, kg/m, Ixx, Iyy, Zxx, Zyy, rxx, ryy

All ISMB, ISMC, ISHB, and ISA values from IS 808:1989 (Reaffirmed 2021). SHS and RHS values from IS 4923:1997. Mass tolerance for IS 808 sections: ±2.5% per piece as per IS 1852. Mass tolerance for IS 4923 sections: ±6% per individual piece as per IS 4923:1997 Clause 9.2.

How to Use the Chart for BOM and Weight Estimation

For each structural member in your BOM, identify the section designation from the relevant column in the chart and read the kg/m value directly. Multiply by the cut length in metres to get piece weight. A 6-metre ISMB 250 weighs 37.3 × 6 = 223.8 kg — the chart gives you 37.3 kg/m without any calculation.

For hollow sections (SHS, RHS), the IS 4923 tolerance of ±6% is wider than IS 808 sections. When ordering by weight for large quantities, use the kg/m value from this chart as the nominal and add a 3% buffer when estimating procurement quantity.

The Metal Weight Calculator on this site automates the same calculation for round bar, flat bar, pipe, and box sections. For full BOM preparation across a structural frame, the structural steel fabrication checklist walks through the full material takeoff process.

Why ISMB and ISMC Are Different From ISHB

ISMB and ISMC sections have narrow flanges relative to their depth — suited for beams where bending about the strong (x-x) axis governs. ISHB sections have wide flanges approaching the section depth, giving high weak-axis (y-y) stiffness. This makes ISHB sections the correct choice for columns where biaxial buckling resistance matters. The r_yy values in the ISHB table are 3–5 times higher than equivalent ISMB sections of similar depth.

ISA Equal Angle Principal Axes — u-u and v-v

Unlike I-sections and channels, angle sections have principal axes u-u and v-v at 45° to the legs (for equal angles). IS 808:1989 publishes I_uu and I_vv rather than I_xx and I_yy. The u-u axis is the maximum principal axis and I_uu is larger — use I_uu when assessing buckling resistance about the maximum axis. For equal angles, C_xx = C_yy (centroid is equidistant from both leg backs).

Frequently Asked Questions

IS 808 PDF free mein kahan se milega?

MetalWeightPro ka yeh PDF bilkul free hai — upar diye gaye download button se directly download kar sakte hain. Isme ISMB, ISMC, ISHB, ISA equal angles, SHS aur RHS — sabke weight aur dimension tables hain IS 808:1989 aur IS 4923:1997 ke according.

What is the difference between ISMB and ISHB sections?

ISMB (Medium Weight Beam) sections have narrow flanges (flange width 75–210 mm for 100–600 mm depth) suited for beam bending about the strong axis. ISHB (Heavy Beam) sections have wide flanges equal to or close to the section depth, giving high weak-axis stiffness. ISHB is used primarily as columns; ISMB is used as beams. Both are specified in IS 808:1989.

What tolerance applies to IS 808 structural steel sections?

For IS 808:1989 hot-rolled sections (ISMB, ISMC, ISHB, ISA), the mass tolerance is ±2.5% per individual piece as specified in IS 1852. For IS 4923:1997 hollow sections (SHS and RHS), the tolerance is ±6% per individual piece as per IS 4923:1997 Clause 9.2.

Does this chart include SHS and RHS hollow sections?

Yes. The chart pack includes 14 SHS sizes from 20×20×2 to 250×250×8 and 14 RHS sizes from 50×25×2.5 to 300×200×8, all per IS 4923:1997. Full sectional properties (I, Z, r) are calculated from IS 4923 geometry and included in the tables.
