Why We Built This

Most metal weight calculators online are outdated, slow, bloated with ads, or require registration. We built MetalWeightPro to be the tool we wished existed: fast, clean, accurate, and mobile-friendly.

Every formula is based on standard cross-sectional geometry. Density values follow IS, ASTM, and BS engineering standards. The interface is designed to work just as well on a phone at a job site as on a desktop in an office.

About the Author

Param Mehta is an electrical engineer and manufacturing professional based in Surat, Gujarat. He holds a Master of Engineering in Power Systems from G.H. Patel College of Engineering & Technology, V.V. Nagar, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from Atmiya Institute of Technology & Science, Rajkot.

With nearly a decade of hands-on experience in production management and business development at Y-SON Urban Lighting and Led Shop India, Param has worked directly with steel fabricators, structural contractors, and material procurement teams across South Gujarat. His work involves preparing Bills of Materials, coordinating with fabrication workshops, and sourcing structural steel sections for lighting infrastructure projects across the region.

Prior to this, he worked as a Sales Engineer at Luker Electric Technologies, where he coordinated with architects, consultants, and contractors on structural and electrical project specifications — gaining direct exposure to the IS-code-driven procurement processes used by Indian fabrication and construction companies.

MetalWeightPro was built from the frustration of not having a fast, accurate, mobile-friendly reference tool on job sites and in workshop offices. Param has also published two peer-reviewed research papers in IEEE conferences (ISSP 2017, ICICICT 2017) on electrical engineering, and brings the same rigour to the technical content on this site.

Every article and reference table on MetalWeightPro is cross-checked against the relevant Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) publication before publication — including IS 808:1989 for structural steel sections, IS 1786:2008 for TMT bars, IS 1239 for MS pipes, IS 4923:1997 for hollow sections, and IS 2062:2011 for structural steel grades.

Weight values are derived from the exact geometric formulas specified in the respective IS codes, not from third-party approximations. Manufacturer-specific data (Tata Tiscon, APL Apollo, JSW, SAIL, Jindal, Kamdhenu) is cross-referenced against published brand specifications and IS tolerances.
